General information

Coastman Norway Race Manual
The Race Manual will provide you with all the necessary information for Coastman Norway Triathlon 2023.
Please read through and ensure you understand the Race Manual.

All athletes are required to have a triathlon license in order to start. One race license can be purchased during the registration procedure. Foreign athletes must have licenses from their own country. Licenses will be checked during the registration during the pre-race meeting.

Swim
We have an exciting but sheltered swim course in the harbor of Tjeldstoe. Coastman 73.3 will swim one lap of 1900 meters. Olympic distance will swim one lap of 1500 meters. When you exit the water you will have a 300 meter walk to T1 at the school.

Coastman 70.3  race starts at 10:00 hrs.
Cut-off time for the swim leg is 1 hrs 15 minutes exit T1.

The Olympic distance race starts at 10:20 hrs.
No cut-off time.

 

Bike
Coastman 70.3  bike leg is a 2 loop course that totals 90 km in the  scenic landscape of Oygarden.
It is a flat, fast and exciting bike course. Total elevation is about 660 m.
Cut-off time for the bike leg is 5:30 hrs exit T2.

The Olympic distance bike leg is a 1 loop course that totals 45 km in the scenic landscape of Oygarden.
It is a flat, fast and exciting bike course. Total elevation is about 330 m.
No cut-off time.

 

Run
Coastman 70.3 run leg  is a 2 lap course between Tjeldstoe and Skjold.
Cut-off time for the total Coastman 70.3 is 19:30 hrs

The Olympic distance run leg is a 1 lap course between Tjedstoe and Skjold.
No cut-off time.

Service stations approx every 2,5 km.

 

Aid Stations
On the bike course here will be aid stations every 21 km
On the run course here will be aid stations every 3,3 km
Energy drink, gels, energy bars, fruit and water will be available at all aid stations

 

Personal needs station
A personal needs station on the bike course will be located on the northern aid station (see Google map on our website).
A personal needs station on the run course will be located at the turnaround point at Tjeldstø (see Google map on our website) These are the only locations for outside assistance from your own support crew.

 

Time schedule:

Saturday August 19th 2023

Pre-race meeting at 17:00 at Tjeldstø skole

Sunday August 20th 2023

Bike check-in at T1 at Tjeldstø from 07:30 to 09:30 hrs.

 

 

Team Relay:

As an alternative to the individual participation, you can race as a team, consisting of two or three athletes each that will compete in the three disciplines involved: swimming, cycling, running.

Teams can be mixed and participants can belong to different age group.
Each team will be equipped with a time chip, which will act as a “witness” to be passed between the 3 team members. Passing of chip must take place in T1 and T2 area.

The names of team’s member are subject to change up to 4 weeks prior to the race.

 

Return of bike after race:
Bikes are returned after the race at Tjeldstø bike park when handing in your timing chip

 

All participants must sign a waiver release stating that they have read the conditions of the waiver and are aware of the risks associated with the race; captains must ensure all team members read and sign the waiver.

 

All finishers will be awarded the Coastman Norway finisher T-shirt.

Swim

You will be allowed to enter the water at 09:55 hrs. / 10:05 hrs. /10:15 hrs.
There will be an in-water start for the swim leg. The start will be in the sheltered harbor at Tjeldstoe. We have an exciting but sheltered swim course along the shore side with a spectacular view to the great North Atlantic Ocean outside. The swim is two or one loop course with turning point after 950 meters (750 meters for Olympic couse).

The water is normally clear and the depth will vary from 3 to 20 meters. There are no strong currents or waves.
You will be escorted by crew in boats and kayaks. The crew will guide you and ensure you follow the course.
If you get any kind of problem, please roll on to your back, raise your arm to signal to the crew by waving your hands.

You exit the water the same place where the swim begun. You will be guided by our crew.

When exiting the water you have a 300 meter walk to T1. Please follow the directions of the crew.

 

Bike

The bikes will be racked at T1 at Tjeldstoe School

Once you pass exit T1 you are allowed to mount your bike.
Once on the bike you ride the roundabout approx 400 m. You enter the roundabout and turn right (north).You are now on the bike course.

You will lap the course 2/1 times between Sture and Vik.
When biking you will cross 6 bridges. The landscape is epic, crossing the small islands with the fjord on one side and the great ocean on the other.
The bike course is flat, fast and exciting. You will mainly be biking 10 – 20 meters above sea level.

If you get a penalty for drafting during the race, you must stop in the nearest penalty box placed in each end of the bike course at Vik or at Sture.

The bike course  is the same that was used when we hosted the Norwegian time trial championships both in 2008 and 2012, won by Edvald Boasson Hagen and Reidar Borgersen, and will be used for the UCI 2017 Road World championship.

After 90 / 45 km you return to Tjeldstoe school where you enter T2.

Running

The run lap is 10,5 km run 2 or 1 times. It is a quick and fast run in beautiful surroundings.

Please keep to the right-hand side of the road. When overtaking, please overtake on the left hand side of the one passed.

 

 

Rules

Coastman Norway general rules are based on the rules and regulations of the International Triathlon Union ITU. All athletes are required to have a triathlon license in order to start.This can be purchased during the registration procedure. Foreign athletes must have licenses from their own country. Licenses will be checked during the registration the day before the race.

Liability
All athletes must sign a document of «Release from Liability» before they receive their start number.
You must be at least 18 years in order to start.
